Gettysburg. You think of the Civil War. Lincoln. But for Corvair people, it’s also the home of the Corvair Ranch. Where hundreds of Corvairs go to give their “last full measure of devotion,” so that other Corvairs shall have a “new birth of freedom.” Sunday, May 19, 11:30am onward, is the Ranch’s Open House, and I’ll be there signing Lifemobile. Hope to see you there! Directions are here.

On Saturday, May 4, 2 p.m., I’ll read and sign Lifemobile at the 2013 Virginia Vair Fair, hosted by the Northern VA Corvair Club. The event will be at the Best Western Leesburg Hotel and Conference Center, the host hotel, located at 726 East Market St., Leesburg. This event is open to the public. Directions are here. And while you’re there, check out the dozens of Corvairs that will be on display.
Willow Run, the GM factory in Ypsilanti, MI that built the vast majority of American Corvairs, now faces demolition as part of the clean-up of the GM bankruptcy. During WWII, Willow Run built the B-24 bomber, and at the height of the war was producing one B-24 per hour! For an interesting history of the plant, click here.

World Autism Awareness Day! It’s truly incredible how much the awareness of autism and Asperger’s has grown in the past decade. In 1996, I remember well asking the public school system what services they might provide for my Asperger’s son? Their answers: None and, by the way, what’s Asperger’s? Eight years later, the same school system could not have been more helpful and my son had a wonderful public high school experience. Thanks to all who worked so hard to make that happen.
Many thanks to the participants and big crowd at my Virginia Festival of the Book panel today, “Novels of Loss and Redemption.” We had a terrific discussion after the panel presented.
FRIDAY, 5pm, I’ll be discussing Lifemobile at the wonderful Oakland School for children with learning challenges. My son is an alum and I’m a proud parent and supporter. It’s open to the public. Directions to the Oakland School are here.
